How Teen Louis Braille Came Up With System for Blind to Read and Write

Nearly 200 years ago, a French teenager changed the world for blind people by creating a new way for them to read and write that still bears his name today. Louis Braille lost his sight completely by age 5. He studied at the National Institute for Blind Youth in Paris, but found the system of reading at that time, which featured raised letters, difficult and created a simpler system using dots that was inspired by night writing, used for covert battle communications.
