In January 1994, Tonya Harding found herself at the center of a national scandal after her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan was attacked. Harding denied any involvement in the incident, and her parents, Al Harding and LaVona Fay Golden, stood by her side. In February 1994, after Harding’s husband pleaded guilty to racketeering in connection with the assault, Inside Edition spoke to Harding's parents separately. Both said their daughter had nothing to do with the attack.
