Hundreds of Lanterns Released Into the Sky at End of Lunar New Year Celebration

March 2, 2018

Hundreds of paper lanterns were released into the sky in New Taipei City, Taiwan, to mark the end of the 15-day Lunar New Year celebration. The Lantern Festival happens on the night of the first full moon of the new year, a tradition that dates back nearly 2,000 years, though it was only introduced to Taiwan in the 19th century. Written on the lanterns are messages bearing hope for prosperity and togetherness.
