Increase in Reckless and Drunk Driving Is Result of Pandemic Stress, Experts Say

It’s a troubling side effect of the pandemic — wild, dangerous driving. Fatalities from car wrecks are skyrocketing, up 7% in 2020, and up 18% in just the first six months of 2021 — the highest in 14 years. Experts say the bad behaviour is a direct reflection of the mental state of the nation. The pandemic has left us feeling isolated, lonely and depressed, and it's affecting how we drive. The phenomenon even has a name, “Arousal Breakout.”
