Academy Award-Winning Actor Lou Gossett Jr. Dead at 87

Academy Award winner Louis Gossett Jr has died. In 1977, Gossett played the role of Fiddler in the groundbreaking miniseries, "Roots." The performance won him an Emmy award. Gossett was the first Black man to win an Oscar for best supporting actor, for his role in the 1982 film, "An Officer and a Gentleman." Gossett had over 60 years worth of film and television credits, and was most recently seen in the 2023 remake of "The Color Purple."
