Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Started Small, but Keeps Growing

November 19, 2017

Before the turkey and sweet potatoes hit the table, many Americans begin their Thanksgiving with a parade. And it's been that way for nearly a century. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade started out as a small get-together, but now, thousands march, millions watch from the street and many more tune in from home. The parade's iconic helium balloons were introduced in 1927, and every year spectators turn out to see their favorite characters in jumbo size.
