Man Out to Prove the World Is Flat Crashes Homemade Rocket

A man who wanted to prove the world is flat almost had a fatal catastrophe as he propelled himself into the atmosphere in a homemade steam-powered rocket. The self-taught engineer known as “Mad” Mike Hughes propelled himself 1,875 feet into the sky Sunday in his homemade steam powered rocket. His descent nearly turned disastrous as the ship went zooming downwards at 350 miles an hour. He deployed parachutes to slow down, but crash-landed in the Mojave Desert.
