Man Sentenced to Death for Japan Animation Studio Arson That Killed 36 in 2019

A Japanese man has reportedly been sentenced to death after being found guilty of killing 36 people in a fire in 2019. Shinji Aoba is accused of setting fire to Kyoto Animation Studio No. 1, causing many people inside to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. NHK reports his defense tried to argue he was mentally unfit to be held responsible, but the court disagreed because it found evidence of premeditation and hesitation before the arson. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
