Mayfly Swarms Bring ‘Bug Apocalypse’ on the Heels of Cicada Invasion

Just as the cicada invasion has started to peter out, another insect has swarmed its way into many American communities: mayflies. Some people half-jokingly call it a “Bug Apocalypse.” Mayflies gather in dense swarms, and can send people running. A huge swarm was spotted at an Alabama gas station, even resting on the pumps. The harmless winged insects have a life-span of only two days, but they certainly make themselves noticed in that time.
