Over-the-Counter Birth Control Pill Will Cost $20 Per Month

In July 2023 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced approval for over-the-counter sales of Opill, a progestin-only contraceptive. The pill, which has been given by prescription-only for more than 50 years, will finally be available on store shelves later this March. Opill’s maker, Perrigo, announced a one-month supply has a suggested retail price of $19.99. More than 100 countries offer oral contraceptives without a prescription, but this is a first for the U.S.
