NBA Jerseys Honor Breonna Taylor and Black Lives Matter as Season Restarts

It was a powerful moment of unity as NBA basketball returned after 141 days on hiatus due to the pandemic. Every player, every coach, and even the referees took a knee during the national anthem. “Black Lives Matter” was painted on the court, and players’ jerseys carried messages of protest such as “Say Her Name,” “How Many More,” and “Equality.” Breonna Taylor, the Kentucky EMT killed by police, is on the cover of O Magazine. It’s the first time in 20 years that Oprah has not been on the cover.
