North Korea Claims Private Travis King Defected Due to Racism in Army: Reports

North Korea has reportedly confirmed it has U.S. Soldier Travis King, who allegedly ran into the isolated nation. Reports say a statement from Pyongyang claims King sought refuge there after experiencing ”inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination” in the military. The 23-year-old Army Private from Wisconsin was on a tour of the demilitarized zone between North Korea and South Korea when witnesses say he ran across the border on July 18.
