40,000-Year-Old Songline Carvings Threatened by Gas Pipeline

Indigenous Australians are fighting to preserve historical carvings, called Songlines. The Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia is home to more than a million rock carvings, some dating back over 40,000 years. Those carvings are under threat by plans to build a liquified gas pipeline and a $2.7 billion chemical plant. An organization called Save our Songlines says it opposes more development on the land to prevent “damaging our Songlines, our rock art, our health and our climate.”
