A new technique in lung transplantation could save many more lives. Northwestern Medicine Canning Thoracic Institute says it has adopted practices known as "lungs in a box" and "lungs in a fridge" which it says are yielding dramatic benefits. "Lungs in a box" is a way to repair damaged or diseased lungs, while "lungs in a fridge" preserves the organs so they can travel farther and wait longer for a patient to receive them.
