Quadriplegic Man Operates Wheelchair Using His Facial Expressions

Jim Ryan was a pilot for 38 years, but that all changed during a Hawaii beach vacation in 2016 when a big wave left him paralyzed. Moving on his own was not an option, until he crossed paths with a fancy wheelchair, known as "the wheelie," by Intel and Hoobox, which utilizes artificial intelligence. He operates the chair by moving his face, and there are 11 different expressions he can make. For Jim, he says it's the biggest piece of freedom he has.
