Rare Double Brood of Cicadas to Emerge This Summer for 1st Time in 200 Years

Fourteen states in the Midwest will get a double portion of cicadas this season. In a phenomenon that hasn’t happened since the 1800s, two different groups, or broods, of cicadas will emerge at the same time. According to Science Alert, this double brood won’t happen again for another 200 years. Cicadas can damage small plants and trees, but researchers say they pose no risk to humans.
