The nation is still grappling with the shocking video of Tyre Nichols' brutal beating by Memphis police officers. The cops belonged to the now disbanded anti-crime SCORPION unit, set up to combat violent repeat offenders. Nichols, a skateboarder on his way home from photographing the sunset, was not their usual target. A New York Times analysis of the tape reveals police shouted 71 commands in 13 minutes. Nichols was 100 yards away from his mother's house when police beat him.
