Security Cracks Down on Mourners Taking Selfies With Pope Francis
April 24, 2025
People are continuing to wait in long lines to view Pope Francis as he lies in state. The Vatican decided to keep the doors to St. Peter's Basilica open all night, stopping the viewing for only an hour at 6 a.m. Roughly 50 people pass the late pontiff's casket every minute. Security guards are keeping lines moving and cracking down on people taking selfies with the coffin. After passing the casket, mourners are given prayer cards with Pope Francis' portrait.
