Soldier's Remains Returned to Family Over 70 Years Later

Corporal Tommie T Hanks served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In late 1950, Corporal Hanks fought in Korea with an all-Black regiment. His unit reported him missing after a battle and the Army declared his remains could not be recovered. Scientists from the Defense POW MIA Accounting Agency identified Corporal Hanks in August 2022 using anthropological, isotrope, and DNA analysis. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
