Tornadoes in Germany Reached Wind Speeds Up to 112 MPH

October 5, 2021

Tornadoes brought high winds and dark clouds to batter the German port of Kiel. Trees were uprooted, and houses were damaged by multiple tornadoes that hit on Wednesday. According to the European Severe Weather Database, the tornado in Kiel rated an F1 on the Fujita scale. That means the people on the ground were experiencing whipping winds that reached speeds of between 73 and 112 miles per hour.  Germany usually sees up to 60 tornadoes per year, but rarely as strong as those seen in Kiel.
