The Netflix special ‘The Ghost Bride’ tells the story of a young woman who agrees to marry into a rich family by becoming the bride of their deceased son. While the book behind the series is fictional, author Yangsze Choo says the practice of ghost marriages among the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia is very real.
