Meghan Markle Welcomes Baby Boy With Prince Harry

Anticipation for the royal baby reached a fever pitch as the Duchess of Sussex's due date came and went last week.

Meghan Markle welcomed a baby boy on Monday morning.

"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019," read an Instagram post on the couple's official account. "Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz."

The post added: "The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days."

Prince Harry stepped out to say he was "incredibly proud" of his wife.

"Mother and baby are doing incredibly well," Harry told reporters. "It's been the most amazing experience I could ever possibly imagine.

"I can't possibly imagine how any woman does what they do, what they do is beyond comprehension, but we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there."

He added: "I'm so incredibly proud of my wife and as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing, but this little thing is absolutely to die for so I'm just over the moon."

As for names, Harry said they're still debating.

Anticipation for the royal baby reached a fever pitch as the Duchess of Sussex's due date came and went last week.

Some even wondered whether the baby had already been born.

British radio DJ Chris Evans speculated on air that the queen's recent visit to Frogmore Cottage, where Meghan and Harry live, was to see the child.

"The queen has been to see Meghan and Harry ... at their place, right?" he said. "Now, she doesn't do that. That's all I'm saying.”

Meghan and Harry previously announced they will not pose for the media immediately after the birth — as has been customary for royal babies, but rather opt for intimate portraits at a later time.

Meghan and Harry formally announced their relationship in November 2016, then announced they were engaged a year after in November 2017.

They were married in May 2018 at Windsor Castle in a ceremony watched by around 23 million people worldwide.

Kensington Palace announced Meghan’s pregnancy a few months later.
