‘Rent: Live’ Not so Live After Actor Breaks Foot in Dress Rehearsal

After lead actor Brennin Hunt broke his foot during a dress rehearsal for “Rent: Live,” Fox aired a pre-recorded performance of the musical — much to viewers’ dismay.

Fox’s “Rent: Live” became the talk of social media Sunday for not really being "live" after a lead actor broke his foot during a dress rehearsal

Vanessa Hudgens, who played Maureen in the show, addressed the viewers at home before the first commercial break.

“Last night during our performance in front of a live audience, one of our cast members sustained an injury. A visit to the hospital confirmed that Brennin Hunt, our Roger, has broken his foot and will be unable to perform tonight,” she said.

With no understudy, the producers opted for the pre-recorded dress rehearsal footage that was never intended to air.

Hashtags #RentNotLive and #RentKindaLive were trending during the broadcast.

An audience member tweeted cellphone video, showing what the studio audience was watching while different footage aired at home.

Hunt appeared on the studio stage in a wheelchair with his leg in a cast.

The broadcast did go live for the big "Seasons of Love" finale with members of the original 1996 Broadway cast, including Idina Menzel, Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Jesse L. Martin, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Fredi Walker and Taye Diggs.
