'Secret Santa' Leaves $2,000 Tip to Waitresses
The anonymous diner enjoyed a $17.23 breakfast of eggs, toast and juice.
‘Tis the season to leave a generous tip.
An Arizona “Secret Santa” left a waitress a $2,000 tip after enjoying a breakfast of eggs, toast and juice at a Scottsdale diner.
“Unbelievable,” Delia Meek, a waitress at 5 & Diner, told KPHO. “We took it to the manager and said, ‘Look what we got.’”
She explained the customer was unassuming, and spent about an hour eating a meal that came up to $17.23. He observed the servers before quietly slipping away.
“We didn’t even realize it until we looked at the credit card and he was already gone,” Meek said.
Scribbled at the bottom of the receipt were the words, “Please split with the whole staff. Merry Christmas!”
Meek, who served the customer, said she took home $400 of the shocking tip while everyone else working that day received $200.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said. “I wish he was here. I would thank him in person, give him a big ol’ hug.”
