Son, 34, Dies While Trying to Save Father Who Fell off Boat

Jeremiah Israel’s 64-year-old father accidentally walked off the boat thinking he was home.
A Georgia man drowned while trying to save his father, who had accidentally walked off their boat during a fishing trip.
Jeremiah Israel’s 64-year-old father had been sleeping when he woke up and thought he was home, according to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. He attempted to go to the bathroom and instead fell into West Point Lake where the boat was docked.
Israel, 34, jumped into to try to save his father but never resurfaced, authorities said.
Nearby boaters who saw what happened were able to pull his father to safety. He was taken the hospital and later released, according to reports.
Israel’s body was reportedly recovered from the lake on Monday.
