It was a life-or-death struggle in a Las Vegas family’s back yard between a hawk and a Yorkie.

The bird of prey saw the Yorkie known as Lulu as his next meal and swooped in to try and fly away with the tiny dog. But Lulu's owner, 15-year-old Cecilia Celis, wasn't about to let that happen.

Cecilia ran outside and tried to shoo off the hawk but had no luck. She then grabbed a seat cushion and repeatedly hit the hawk, which eventually flew away. The entire incident was caught surveillance camera.

“I was screaming like bloody murder,” Cecilia told Inside Edition. “I'm running around trying to find something to hit it with that won't hurt the bird or the dog.”

Cecilia said the hawk ripped a deep hole in Lulu's neck. “So we took her to the vet and they told us that luckily I got there in time,” she said.

“From the tethers on the hawks' legs, it appears to be someone's pet," she added.

The incident was a lesson for Cecilia, who says that from now on she'll be watching her beloved Yorkie like a hawk.
