Teen Seen Hurling Chair off 45th Floor of High-Rise Building Ordered to Live With Mom
Instagram influencer Marcella Zoia is free on bond after video of her throwing the chair off a Toronto balcony went viral.
A 19-year-old Instagram influencer faces multiple charges for hurling a chair off the 45th floor of a Toronto high-rise building in a moment captured on video.
Marcella Zoia posted the video in question on Instagram, showing her picking up a chair and tossing it onto a highway below. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the footage sparked outrage on social media.
"Reckless and stupid," wrote one person.
"People could have died," chimed in another.
After police caught wind of the video — which they said was the highest-reported case on social media ever, according to the Toronto Sun — Zoia was charged with mischief endangering life, mischief damaging property under $5,000 and common nuisance.
She was released on $2,000 bail after appearing in court Wednesday and ordered to live at home with her mother. Photos and video captured Zoia grinning as she left court, a Starbucks beverage in hand.
An attorney for Zoia said the teen is "embarrassed" and called the incident a "mistake."
"She wished it never happened," said lawyer Greg Leslie. "Of course, she would never wish anyone would be hurt."
