The 77th annual Golden Globes kicked off Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. British Comedian Ricky Gervais hosted again, and as usual, told his share of controversial jokes, lobbing swipes at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and at those on social media. The event marked his fifth time hosting. He'd previously confirmed this will be his last run heading the ceremony.

The award ceremony was broadcast live on NBC.
