It appears that nothing is sacred for a Texas thief who police say was caught on camera stealing jewelry from a dead woman.
Surveillance footage from Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Odessa appears to show an unscrupulous theft of what police say is a ring from the finger of a deceased woman in her coffin.
A subsequent investigation revealed the theft occurred on Friday around 5:30 p.m.
Police announced late Tuesday they had made an arrest in the macabre case. A tip led officers to Kalynn Homfeld, 41, who apologized for her alleged actions and was arrested and charged with a felony count of theft from a human corpse, according to a statement from the Odessa Police Department.
Homfeld was booked into the Ector County Jail, but it was not clear whether she was being held or had posted bond.

The dead woman was identified by her family as 88-year-old Lois Hicks.
An employee who answered the phone at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral confirmed that the alleged crime occurred at the establishment but declined to speak further.
