Loon Callers Young And Old Try To Make Their Best Bird Sounds

Every year in the town of Belgrade Lakes, Maine, people try their best to approximate the distinctive calls of the loon. Why loons? Local lodging proprietor Rhonda Rice told Inside Edition Digital the birds “are iconic to the lakes in Maine.” And the sounds they make are unforgettable. Rhonda’s husband John Rice, who’s emceed the Loon Calling Contest for the past quarter century, described it as “a one-of-a-kind event.”
