April 21, 2026
A gunman opened fire Monday at the archaeological site of Teotihuacan, near Mexico City, killing a Canadian woman and wounding at least three others before taking his own life, authorities said. Mexico’s Security Cabinet said it deployed a coordinated operation involving police and National Guard forces after reports of gunshots at the site. A firearm, a bladed weapon and cartridges were recovered at the scene. The motive for the attack remains unknown. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on social media that the shooting would be investigated and that she was in touch with the Canadian Embassy.
