David Blaine Pulls Off Freefall Skydive Trick Inspired by ‘The Red Balloon’

September 2, 2020

Famed magician David Blaine, known for his daring stunts that test the limits of his survival skills, is back with a new trick. Blaine was hoisted 20,000 feet over the Arizona desert by 52 large red balloons, before plunging toward the earth in a freefall broken by a pull of his parachute cord. Blaine said the trick was inspired by the classic film “The Red Balloon,” which his mother took him to see as a child. He dedicated the stunt, dubbed “Ascension,” to his 9-year-old daughter.
