Did Couple and Homeless Veteran Use GoFundMe to Scam Contributors?

In a shocking twist, prosecutors say the tale of a New Jersey couple who famously raised $400,000 on GoFundMe for a homeless veteran they claimed to be helping was a scam. Last year, Kate McClure said she ran out of gas while driving when Johnny Bobbitt, a homeless vet, gave her his last $20. McClure and her boyfriend, Mark D’Amico created a GoFundMe campaign for Bobbitt that captured America’s heart. Now all three have been arrested and charged with conspiracy and theft by deception.
