Hawaii’s Mauna Loa Erupts for First Time in 38 Years

Hawaii’s Mauna Loa is erupting. It’s the world’s largest active volcano, but it hasn’t erupted in 38 years. The U.S. Geological Survey says this latest eruption began on Sunday night. Emissions from the volcano were captured on satellite. The eruption wasn’t exactly a surprise — scientists monitoring the mountain had clocked a number of earthquakes at Mauna Loa’s base. The eruption caused ash and debris to fall in the Big Island vicinity.
