Last Statue of Dictator Francisco Franco is Removed from Spanish City of Melilla
February 24, 2021
The last statue of one-time Spanish dictator Francisco Franco still standing on a European territory was removed this week. The statue stood outside the gates of the city of Melilla -- an autonomous Spanish city on Morocco’s northern coast. Most didn’t seem sad to see the thing go; only a small group of onlookers gathered to watch the fall of Franco, before he was loaded onto a truck and hauled away.
