Street Name With Links to Slavery Changed to Honor Local Hero
February 1, 2023
A street with a name dating back to the trans-Atlantic slave trade has been given a new moniker to honor a local hero. La Rose Lane is now on street signs in London. The road was renamed to pay homage to publisher, poet, and social activist, John LaRose. LaRose Lane was once known as Black Boy Lane. Historical records show a 17th-century pub with that name once stood in the area. The former handle harkens back to area residents who worked in the slave trade during that time.
