3,000 Tarantulas Found In Smugglers' Socks

The Peruvian National Forestry and Wildlife Service says an estimated 3,000 tarantulas were discovered in the luggage of three passengers bound for Germany. The hairy arachnids were hidden inside socks. They included tarantulas at every stage of development – from eggs to fully grown adults. Several different tarantula species were among the cluster. It's believed that the various-colored creatures are sought by illicit animal collectors.
