Wildfires Cause Spain to Remove Remains of 11th Century Kings from Monastery
August 14, 2026
Spanish authorities and emergency crews removed the remains of the Aragón region's first three kings as a wildfire has spread across the area. The remains were taken to the provincial museum of Huesca, located 50 miles south of the 11th century monastery where they were located for their protection until conditions improve, local politicians announced. Spain's Civil Guard said on Thursday that one person had been detained on suspicion of starting the wildfire.
