You Can Visit Boat from The American Revolution Found Under World Trade Center

    October 4, 2026
This September marked 25 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center and how it altered the course of American life this century. But there is also a piece of US history that was found in the rubble from previous centuries when the country was fighting for independence from the British. In 2010, archaeologists excavating the World Trade Center site made an extraordinary discovery: the remains of an 18th-century wooden gunboat buried deep beneath Lower Manhattan’s landfill. The boat is now on display at the New York State Museum in Albany and Mike Lucas, Curator of Historical Archaeology, New York State Museum, tells Inside Edition Digital, "There's still probably ships down below the surface of Manhattan waiting to be found."
