Suspect Running From Cops Jumps Into Toxic Algae, Then Begs for Help: 'I'm Going to Die'
Abraham Duarte, 22, found himself tangled in the thick weeds.
A suspect running from Florida police found himself facing a more formidable foe: Toxic algae.
Bodycam video showed Cape Coral police chasing a man they had pulled over for speeding Saturday. The suspect, identified as Abraham Duarte, 22, jumped out of his vehicle and ran away.
Duarte ended up jumping into a canal filled with algae and tried to swim away as officers looked on.
He became tangled in the weeds and started flailing his arms.
"I'm going to die," Duarte shouted.
The suspect ended up turning to police for help, who fished him out of the water before handcuffing him.
Duarte was taken to the hospital for treatment as he had swallowed some of the toxic algae. He was later booked on charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest without violence.
