Winning $1.6 Billion Mega Millions Ticket Sold in South Carolina
The jackpot hadn't been won since July 24.
Someone in South Carolina will finally take home the Mega Millions $1.6 billion jackpot, the largest ever in the U.S.
The winning numbers – 5, 28, 62, 65, 70, and Mega Ball 5 – were drawn Tuesday, and officials announced that the sole winning ticket was purchased in South Carolina.
The cash option for the win is $913 million.
Citing security procedures, the South Carolina Education Lottery said they aren’t releasing the city or county where the winner lives. The win is the state’s first Mega Millions jackpot win.
South Carolina is one of eight states where lottery winners can remain anonymous.
In addition, 36 individuals matched all five white balls to claim $1 million each. A Texas winner and another in Florida included the optional Megaplier so they will take home $3 million each.
The Mega Millions jackpot had been growing since July 24, when 11 coworkers split a $543 million prize.
