Zsa Zsa the English Bulldog Dies in Her Sleep, Weeks After Being Named World's Ugliest Dog
“I’m still in shock,” her owner, Megan Brainard, said.
Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog recently crowned the world’s ugliest dog, has died just weeks after winning the highly coveted title.
“I’m sad to share that ZSA ZSA passed away in her sleep last night,” her owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, confirmed on the pup’s Facebook page Tuesday.
The 9-year-old canine with an unmistakable underbite was named the winner of the 2018 World's Ugliest Dog contest in the San Francisco Bay Area last month.
“I’m still in shock,” Brainard told the "Today" Show.
She explained her beloved dog was being taken care of by her dad, when he woke up Tuesday morning to find Zsa Zsa had died in her sleep.
Brainard, her husband Jesse and their 15-month-old daughter Mareslie held a small farewell ceremony for Zsa Zsa shortly after.
Zsa Zsa spent her first five years in a puppy mill in Missouri before she was rescued by Brainard’s family through a no-kill shelter.
They named their dog after actress Zsa Zsa Gabor.
"She knew she was special," Brainard said.
