Bode Miller and Morgan Beck are sharing the good news about the birth of their twin boys, 18 months after the drowning death of their ibaby daughter Emmy.
“Insanely overwhelmed and grateful for all these gifts my baby girl keeps sending,” Beck wrote in an Instagram post in which she shared photos of the twins.
Even more special was that her husband, a famous former Olympic skier, unexpectedly ended up delivering the babies.
They had hired midwives for the occasion but they didn't arrive in time, Miller said on the "Today" show. In fact, he said, Morgan had told them not to come at all, thinking they had time before the twins’ arrival.
The 42-year-old dad said he asked them to come anyway, but by the time they arrived, “me and my mom were holding the babies.
“Luckily my mom was a midwife but she hadn’t delivered babies in 20-plus years and she never delivered twins,” Miller said. “We were both pretty relaxed and pretty casual but we were certainly not qualified to be doing an unassisted home delivery of twins.”
The couple announced they were pregnant in August, less than a year after the birth of their last baby, Easton, who was born in October 2018.
Beck, a professional beach volleyball player, was pregnant with Easton during the drowning of their 1-year-old daughter Emmy.
“Losing a child while pregnant was the most confusing experience of my life,” the 32-year-old mom said in a previous Instagram post.
One in five people who die from drowning are children 14 years and younger, according to the CDC.
The couple also has a 4-year-old son together, Nash. Miller has two children, 11-year-old Dace and 6-year-old Nate, from previous relationships.
