How Do These Singers' Christmas Tunes Stack Up? Music Expert Weighs In

Critic Jem Aswad reviewed holiday songs from John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, and more.

Christmas brings on the music of the season, many contemporary artists have released their own spins on some holiday classics.

John Legend sounds like he stepped back in time for his version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Jem Aswad, the senior music editor at Variety, told Inside Edition that Legend's song is “very grandmother-friendly.”

"John Legend is almost like a Bing Crosby for the modern ages," Aswad added.

Not all stars are re-recording old songs, however. Real-life couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton released a new song for the holidays called “You Make It Feel Like Christmas.”

Aswad said he was pleasantly surprised by the tune. “It is better than I was expecting it to be, honestly; their voices are actually very well-suited for this kind of song,” he said.

If you're in a grinchy mood, rapper Tyler, the Creator, has reworked the classic "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" for the latest adaptation of Dr. Seuss' beloved story.

There is also a new rendition of “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” performed by none other than "Star Trek" star William Shatner, but Aswad advises you pass on that one, calling the tune unlistenable.
