ESPN’s Stephen Smith Apologizes for Comments on Slugger Shohei Ohtani’s English

Shohei Ohtani is a baseball sensation, leading the major leagues with 33 home runs. But an ESPN host is apologizing today for comments he made about the player, who has been called the new Babe Ruth. Stephen Smith said that the fact that the Japanese-born Ohtani uses an interpreter for TV interviews "contributes to harming the game to some degree." After a swift social media backlash, Smith offered "sincere apologies."
