Maia Herman-Kitami, 18, had never seen snow before. But when she and Carlos Hernandez drove into California’s Mendocino National Forest to see the white stuff, they got a lot more than they bargained for. Their car became stuck, miles from civilization. They tried digging themselves out, but it only snowed more. They started to lose hope. But after five days, members of a search party on snowmobiles spotted the pair’s vehicle, buried in the snow.
