How This African Artist Made Thousands Turning Scraps Into Art

Marcella Akpojotor knows how to be resourceful. The artist, based in Nigeria, uses Akara fabric scraps for her artwork. The scraps of the ubiquitous cloth would otherwise be burned or thrown into the Lagos Lagoon. "Because I go there and they have someone who collects them so they are also keeping it and the environment is safe. Instead of throwing them, I am repurposing them," Akpojotor said.
