What Foods Promote ‘Good’ Gut Bacteria?

Maintaining a healthy gut allows the esophagus, stomach and intestines to work together. There are hundreds of species of bacteria in our gut called the gut microbiome. To promote the growth of good bacteria in your gut, eat whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits, nuts, garlic, sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi and salmon. Although most people occasionally experience abdominal pain, talk to your doctor if these issues persist or come with other symptoms. Dr. Holly Phillips explains.
