9/11 Detective Luis Alvarez Laid to Rest After Battle With Cancer

The streets of New York City were lined with mourners as they paid tribute to retired NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez, who spent his last days fighting for others. Alvarez lost his battle with cancer less than three weeks after delivering that heart-wrenching testimony before a congressional committee with Jon Stewart to extend health benefits for Ground Zero first responders. Stewart looked grief-stricken at the funeral while offering a salute to his fallen friend.
