What Is the Hindu Holiday of Diwali and How Is It Celebrated?

“Diwali or Deepavali, is the Hindu Festival of Light,” Yale University Hindu Chaplain Asha Shipman told Inside Edition Digital. The holiday falls in late October or early November, according to the Hindu lunar calendar. “It signifies victory of good over evil, of knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair,” said Shipman. It’s considered “the biggest and grandest holiday in the very long list of holidays that make up the Hindu calendar,” said Princeton’s Hindu Chaplain, Vineet Chander.
